When you think of a winter sports destination, Iran might not be the first place that comes to mind. However, for the adventurous skier, Iran is a top destination, as evidenced by the choice of some Skioneers and the crew of Arc’teryx’s web series. Their experiences in Iran resulted in unique footage.
The group explored Tehran, the capital city, and nearby ski areas like Dizin, Shemshak, and Darbansar, located about an hour’s drive north of the city. They encountered ski lifts dating back to the last century and enjoyed both groomed slopes and off-piste terrain. They also visited the Zagros Mountains, situated 300 km west of the Iraq-Iran border.
The journey also offered them a deeper insight into Iranian culture, significantly different from Western culture. A memorable moment was their visit to a traditional bathhouse, where they received a unique treatment.
With 21 ski resorts and a total of 44 kilometers of slopes, Iran might not compare to the expansive Alpine regions, but it still offers a unique skiing experience that is well worth exploring.
